‘No Compromise on Territorial Integrity’: Foreign Secretary Shringla on India-China Border Row


Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla said on Friday that India remains firmly committed to preserving its “territorial integrity and sovereignty” amid the tension on the border with China. He spoke at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) webinar.

“As far as we are concerned, there will be no compromise on our sovereignty and territorial integrity. At the same time, as a responsible nation, we are always ready to speak. Our lines of communication are open, ”Shringla said.

He called the situation along the Royal Line of Control (LAC) in Ladakh “unprecedented.”

“This is one of the most serious challenges we have faced in many decades. Also, I think that if we look at the fact that we have not lost lives on the border in the last 40 years, we have not seen this magnitude of accumulation of forces on the border also in recent years, it is something we have to do. take stock ”, said the Secretary of Foreign Relations.

At the webinar, the diplomat also spoke about India’s role in conducting disaster relief operations and shaping a people-centered international order.

“India has been a constructive actor in shaping a people-centered international order. We have conducted humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations far beyond our immediate neighborhood, ”he said.
