NAVI MUMBAI: The five courtyards of the APMC Vashi market remained closed on Tuesday since the Mathadis, merchants and transporters joined the Bharat bandh in support of farmers’ agitation. Vegetable and fruit supplies were severely affected, pushing retail prices up 10% on average from the previous day.
However, up to 231 tempos and trucks loaded with grains, spices, vegetables and fruits reached the wholesale yards, although APMC management allowed them to enter the market complex, but they were not unloaded due to the absence of mathadi workers. A trader said that all the trucks loaded with essentials are parked inside the yards to be unloaded tomorrow.
According to the secretary of APMC, Anil Chavan, “The supplies from the external stations have arrived at the market yard since last night. Loading and unloading were completely affected by the strike. The truckers will have to wait until tomorrow. The strike was 100%. Although interested parties were informed that they would not bring their products, some made it to the market. ”
The impact of the ‘bandh’ was partial in several nodes of the city. Most stores and commercial establishments lowered the shutters. NMMT buses were on the roads as usual.
