Bihar’s newly sworn-in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced today the various portfolios allocated among his council of ministers, and kept the original portfolio for himself. Governor Phagu Chauhan was sworn in to a 14-member council of ministers in Patna on Monday. This included two senior deputy ministers, Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi, both from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Almost all the ministries previously managed by former Senior Vice Minister Sushil Modi have passed to Mr Prasad, including finance, while Ms Devi would deal with women’s development.

Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar kept the housing portfolio to himself today. This in addition to managing portfolios such as general administration, surveillance, elections and other departments that today are not distributed to any minister.

BJP Senior Deputy Minister Tarkishore Prasad will be in charge of finance, business taxes, environment and forests, information technology, disaster management and urban development. Almost all of these were previously handled by former BJP Senior Deputy Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.

The BJP Senior Vice Minister Renu Devi will be in charge of Panchayati Raj, Rising Retrograde Castes, Extremely Backward Class Welfare and Industry.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary from JDU obtained Rural Engineering, Rural Development, Water Resources, Information and Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs. Bijendra Prasad Yadav from the BJP got Energy, Ban, Planning, Food and Consumer Affairs.

JDU’s Mewalal Choudhary, who won the Tarapur constituency, will be the next Minister of Education. Shiela Kumari of the BJP will be Minister of Transport.

Santosh Kumar Suman of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) obtained the Minor Irrigation and Scheduled Caste / Tribe Well-being portfolios. Mr. Suman is the son of HAM founder Jitan Ram Manjhi.

Mukesh Sahni of the Vikassheel Insaan Party will be in charge of animal husbandry and fishing. Mangal Pandey from the BJP will be in charge of Health, Road Administration and Art and Culture.
