The list of rivals for the Nissan Magnite includes the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
It goes without saying, but subcompact SUVs have been all the rage in the Indian auto market. It is clearly indicated with the volume of sales in this segment and the number of products that compete in this space. In recent times, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Kia Sonet have been added to this lineup.
However, more products are expected to be added to this range in the coming months, the most prominent being the Nissan Magnite. The subcompact SUV has been trending on the internet since last week. Recently, after its production model was seen in an avatar without a costume, the Japanese brand released a preview on its official YouTube channel of the next model being tested.
Now, we have another set of spied images that give us better visual details about the car. As we already know, Nissan has already set a filing date of October 21, 2020 for Magnite. The upcoming SUV will make its first official appearance in its production specification on this date and the manufacturer is also expected to share a few more details.
Exterior design
The recent set of spy photos reveals Magnite in a two-tone red and black color scheme. This time around, its front end is clearly visible and it appears that the production spec model will retain most of the elements shown in the previously revealed concept model. It has a bold front fascia with a wide grille that has adequate amounts of chrome and houses the Nissan emblem. The boldness is enhanced by its stylish LED taillights and, most importantly, its L shape LED DRL.
The fog lamps are housed separately within the body cladding and it also has a dummy skid plate that adds a touch of sportiness. The wraparound LED taillights, a contoured integrated spoiler and a square boot lid. The silver finish of the skid plates, square wheel arches and two-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels add icing to the cake in terms of exterior design. In general, the silhouette appears square.
Interior design and features
While the production model interiors have yet to be revealed thanks to previously revealed concept images, we have an idea of what it will look like. Design-wise, I expected dark-colored interiors with images that revealed a two-tone black and red color scheme. In terms of features, it is expected to offer a 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, engine start / stop button and much more.
Powertrain, transmission options
As we know, it is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-A + platform, which will also support Renault’s upcoming Kiger subcompact SUV. Not just the platform, but these two SUVs will share their powertrain and transmission options as well. Magnite could get two powertrain options: a 70bhp 1.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine and a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 100 hp generating in offer. Transmission options will include a standard 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT automatic gearbox.
Estimated price
Nissan has delayed the official launch of Magnite to early next year. You will be faced with many offerings in this segment including the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, to name a few. The Nissan Magnite is also said to be the most affordable in this segment with a starting price of 6.50 lakh rupees (ex-showroom), or even lower.
