MUMBAI: In the night curfew imposed in Mumbai between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. until January 5, Joint Police Commissioner (Law & Order) Vishwas Nangre Patil said on Wednesday that people can still ride in two- and four-wheelers, but no more of four people at a time.
“You can even go for a walk or drive during curfew hours, but not in a group of five,” he said in an important clarification on the rules. He added: “All essential services and commercial activities of night shifts except establishments used for entertainment / recreational activities (eg, pubs, restaurants, theaters, etc.) will be allowed. These must close at 11 pm “.
2,000 challans on Tuesday during night curfew
The state government issued a revised notice on the night curfew on Wednesday, noting that no more than four people would be allowed to gather until January 5 within all municipal corporate boundaries between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
More than 2,000 challans were issued for traffic violations and against people not wearing masks during Tuesday’s night curfew, police said. Mumbai Traffic Police said the violations included cases of not wearing helmets / seat belts, driving without a license, etc. Police added that the number of challans appeared high compared to measurements taken overnight. The reason could be an increase in controls.
To prevent New Years gatherings that could cause a Covid spread, the state on Tuesday issued an order imposing a nightly curfew in all major cities in Maharashtra.
