After finishing the innings high, Nicholas Pooran was in action again on the field when he made a scandalous effort to save a six from Sanju Samson on the edge. Pooran scored 25 8-ball runs in the first inning, which included 2 sixes in the last on Jofra Archer’s bowling pin.
This edition of IPL has received much criticism for the bad field and the low level of physical condition of the players, who did not have much practice in the previous months due to the pandemic. Potbelly and lazy fielding seemed to be the trend this edition, but this perception was challenged in the Rajasthan-Punjab match when Nicholas Pooran made a scandalous effort on the edge.
Murugan Ashwin faced Sanju Samson in form, who was crushing bowlers all over the ground, in the eighth inning for Rajasthan, trying to slow down KXIP’s race pace. He did it on the first two balls of the over as he conceded only 2 runs, a single on each of the deliveries, but on the third ball, Samson timed the ball perfectly to a ‘nearly six’ in the middle of the deep wicket.
When the ball left Samson’s bat, it was sure to be a six, but Pooran had other plans when he flew to catch the ball two yards out of bounds and threw the ball in to deny Samson a six. It was refreshing to see such a high-level fielding in the midst of a poor fielding displayed by everyone else and it also brought Jonty Rhodes to his feet to applaud the West Indies’ efforts at the show.
Here’s the outrageous West Indies effort:
