Plagued with injuries, New Zealand off-roader Corey Anderson, who once held the record for the 100 fastest ODIs, ended his international career and signed a three-year deal with the US Major League Cricket (MLC). The 29-year-old, who has played 13 events, 49 ODI and 31 T20I for New Zealand, was not featured in any of the Black Caps assignments for the past two years.
In the 93 international games in all formats, he scored 2,277 runs with two hundred and ten half centuries. It also collected 90 windows. “It has been a great honor and (I am) extremely proud to represent New Zealand,” said Anderson, who holds the fastest ODI century record for his 36-ball innings against the West Indies in 2013, according to Cricbuzz.
His 36-ball hundred against the West Indies on New Year’s Day 2014 was the fastest ODI hundred for a year before AB de Villiers broke the record with a 31-ball feat against the same opposition. Anderson regretted the fact that he could not play more international games for his country.
“I would have loved to have achieved and played more, but it is what it is sometimes, and different opportunities arise and send you in a direction that you never thought would be a possibility. Very grateful for all that NZC has done for me. “
Anderson also played in the IPL for the Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore and was also a part of New Zealand’s runner-up at the 2015 World Cup. However, his career was affected by multiple injuries, including a series of fractures. from stress, groin injuries and chronic back problems. The last time he played a T20I for New Zealand was in November 2018.
“It was not an easy decision. I asked myself several questions. What do I want to do now or what do I want to achieve in the next two, five, 10 years? ” he said. “As you get older, you also think about life a little bit broader. And obviously, my fiancee, Mary Margaret, who was born and raised in America, had a big role to play in that because she sacrificed so much for me.
“So when the opportunity arose, we thought that living in America is the best, not just for my cricket, but it’s also the best for both of us in general.”
Anderson recently participated in the Caribbean Premier League for the Barbados Tridents in August.
