Delhi: In a step to contain the spread of the coronavirus amid New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Wednesday (December 30, 2020) that one of its Busiest subway stations after 9 PM on December 31st.
“In order to alleviate overcrowding on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2020), exit from the Rajiv Chowk subway station will not be allowed after 9:00 PM onwards,” DMRC said.
However, passengers will be allowed until the last train leaves.
“Please plan your trip accordingly,” said DMRC.

In particular, Rajiv Chowk is the closest metro station to Delhi’s Connaught Place, which is one of the most famous shopping malls in the national capital. The place is also known for its clubs and bars.
The announcement also comes amid the detection of the new COVID-19 strain in Delhi. More than 8 people have been found with the mutant variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus reported from the UK in Delhi.
Although, Delhi’s COVID-19 positivity rate and active cases are in steady decline for a week. According to the December 29 health bulletin, Delhi has 6,122 active cases of coronavirus. The national capital has also seen 6,07,494 recoveries and 10,502 COVID-19 related deaths.
