New Delhi:
Students will attend schools only with the written consent of parents and there will be flexibility in attendance, say the guidelines issued today by the government for the reopening of schools.
The POEs were published by the Department of School Literacy and Education. In its announcement for Unlock5, the Home Office had said that states and Union territories can decide when to reopen schools and training centers.
Under the SOPs, students can choose to take classes online. Schools must ensure proper hygiene of equipment and classrooms. Schools have been asked to form working groups to ensure hygiene and rapid response to emergency situations.
SOPs say that physical distance must be maintained in schools and that students and teachers must wear face masks at all times.
These are the highlights:
According to paragraph -1 of @HMOIndian. Order No. 40-3 / 2020-DM-I (A) dated 09/30/2020 for reopening, state / UT governments may make a decision regarding the reopening of schools and training institutions after October in a staggered manner. #SchoolGuidelines pic.twitter.com/JLfJ97qJsF

Schools will be required to create a “comprehensive academic calendar” for the entire year focusing on learning outcomes, following the alternate calendar prepared by NCERT. Schools must also ensure a “smooth transition” from homeschooling to formal education, according to the guidelines.
The Department of Education has also asked states and Union territories to develop their own standard operating procedures based on the center’s guidelines.
Schools and universities have been closed since March, when the country entered a lockdown to control the spread of the coronavirus.
