The IRCTC website is intended to be a one-stop-shop for meeting all passenger needs, not just booking train tickets. The passenger should be able to book food, taxis on both sides, hotel, etc. according to their needs, said the Chairman and CEO of the Board of Railways, VK Yadav.
Last week, the Minister of Railways had reviewed the upgrade work and asked railway officials to ensure that the new version of the IRCTC e-ticketing platform offers “all-round convenience” to passengers. Goyal said that as more and more people switch to booking train tickets online, the focus should be on a user-friendly and convenient website.
The last time Indian Railways updated the IRCTC e-ticketing website was in 2018, when several new features were introduced. These included checking the availability of the train without the need to log in, a more personalized dashboard, and also the introduction of a new CNF probability function that allowed passengers to verify the chances that their tickets on the waiting list were confirmed.
The goal was to allow passengers to make a more informed decision when booking train tickets; for example, if the CNF probability of a ticket being confirmed on the waiting list (based on previous train reservation and cancellation history) is low, then the passenger may prefer to opt for another train on the same route or choose another date to travel.
