New Delhi:
For the third day in a row, daily new coronavirus infections in the country settled below the 50,000 mark, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
The ministry said the figures take on importance in the context of some countries reporting up to one lakh of cases per day from the last 3-4 days.
Seventy-two percent of new infections reported in a 24-hour span come from 10 states and UT, and Delhi continues to report the highest daily new cases at 5,983, which is down from its previous day count of 7,745 new cases, said the ministry.
There has been a sustained decrease in the number of active cases in the country in recent weeks, which has dropped to 5.05,265 and currently represents 5.88% of all cases.
For the 38th to date, recoveries have exceeded the new daily cases with 42,033 patients who recovered in a period of 24 hours, compared to 38,073 infections reported during the same period, the ministry stressed.
India has registered fewer than 40,000 new cases a day after six days.
Total recoveries have risen to 79.59,406, bringing the national recovery rate to 92.64 percent.
“The gap between recovered cases and active cases has widened to 74,54,141,” the ministry said.
It is observed that seventy-eight percent of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 states and UT.
Delhi has reported the maximum number of recoveries in a single day with 7,014 newly recovered cases. A total of 5,983 people recovered in Kerala, followed by 4,396 in West Bengal.
Seventy-two percent of the new cases are from 10 states and UT: Delhi, West Bengal, Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
“Delhi continues to report the highest number of new cases daily; 5,983, which is less than the previous day’s count of 7,745 new cases. Delhi is followed by West Bengal with 3,907 new cases,” the ministry said.
Kerala’s daily case has dropped to 3,593, while Maharashtra’s new cases have dropped to 3,277 cases, although they rank third and fourth in reporting new daily cases.
A total of 448 fatal cases have been reported within 24 hours.
Deaths have continued to decline with fewer than 500 deaths reported by the second day.
Ten states and UT account for nearly 78% of deaths. Although Maharashtra recorded the highest number of casualties (85), its contribution to daily deaths has decreased to 18.97 percent, the ministry said.
Delhi and West Bengal follow with 71 and 56 daily deaths, respectively.
India’s COVID-19 case burden rose to 85,91,730 with 38,073 infections reported in one day, while the death count rose to 1,27,059 with 448 new deaths, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
