New Covid protocols of the Ministry of Health for patients in recovery

'Look for early signs': new protocols for patients recovering from Covid

India has so far recorded more than 77,000 coronavirus-related deaths.

New Delhi:

Amid a massive increase in coronavirus cases in India, the government today launched a set of new protocols for patients recovering from the highly contagious disease. After the acute illness from COVID-19, patients who have recovered may continue to report symptoms such as fatigue, body aches, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath, the Union Health Ministry said.

The recovery period is likely to be longer for patients who suffered severe Covid symptoms and for those with any pre-existing health conditions. In a set of new guidelines, the Ministry of Health recommended physical exercise and taking prescription drugs to boost immunity after recovery. “You should constantly monitor your health and look for early signs like a drop in oxygen level or unexplained chest pain,” according to the new guidelines.

“Continue with the appropriate COVID behavior (use of a mask, hand and respiratory hygiene, physical distancing). Drink the appropriate amount of warm water,” said the Ministry of Health.

“Look for early warning signs such as high fever, trouble breathing,
unexplained chest pain, new onset of confusion, focal weakness, “he stressed.

The Ministry of Health has also asked recovered patients to “share their positive experiences with their friends and family using social media, community leaders, opinion leaders, religious leaders to raise awareness, dispel myths and stigmas.”

“Support community self-help groups, civil society
organizations and professionals qualified for the recovery and rehabilitation process (medical, social, occupational, livelihood) ”, he said.

The patients, who had suffered home isolation, “if they complain of
persistent symptoms, he will visit the nearest health center, “the government has emphasized.” Severe cases that require critical care support will require more strict monitoring, “he said.

India recorded its largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases with 97,570 new patients on Saturday, bringing the count to 46,59,984. The country is the second most affected country in the world by the pandemic.
