New complex of the Telangana secretariat will have a temple, church and two mosques

The new secretariat complex to be built by the Telangana government in place of the recently demolished old structures facing the picturesque Hussainsagar Lake in Hyderabad will reflect religious harmony.

Telangana’s chief minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao, announced on Saturday that the new secretariat facilities will have a temple, a church and two mosques. He said that he would soon lay the first stone for these places of worship.

Rao said that the government respects all religions equally and therefore had decided to build places of worship of all religions in the secretariat.

He made the announcement during his interaction with a delegation of Muslim leaders led by All India President Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

The delegation met with him to discuss reconstruction plans for the two mosques that were torn down along with the other structures during the dismantling of the former secretariat complex in July.

The prime minister said that two mosques would be built in the same places where they were located in the past in the former premises of the secretariat. Each mosque would be built in an area of 750 square yards (a total of 1500 square yards), including a quarter for Imam. After construction, the mosques would be handed over to the Wakf State Board.

Similarly, a temple will be built in an area of 1500 square yards and after construction, it will be handed over to the endowment department. Since there was a demand from the Christian community, the government will also build a church.

The KCR told the delegation that it would lay the foundation stone for the three places of worship on the same day after the end of the assembly’s monsoon session that begins on September 7.

“Construction work will start and complete quickly, reflecting the true ‘Ganga Jamuna Tehjeeb’ of the state,” he said.

KCR further said that the government had decided to establish an Islamic Center in Hyderabad with international standards. Land has been allocated for this purpose and work on this project will also accelerate very soon.
