Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that school students should have a new curriculum, which is in tune with the new National Education Policy, by 2022, when the nation celebrates its 75th year of Independence.
Noting that the report card has become a “pressure sheet” for students and a “prestige sheet” for families, the prime minister said the new policy aims to remove this pressure.
NEP will cut down on the curriculum and make learning a fun and complete experience, he said. The new curricular framework will be developed and ready by 2022 when the nation celebrates its 75th anniversary of Independence, he said when addressing the “School Education Conclave” organized by the Ministry of Education.
The new curriculum will be future-proof and scientific. You will have new skills to promote critical thinking, creativity, communication and curiosity, Modi said. The prime minister noted that the Ministry of Education has received more than 15 lakh of suggestions from teachers on the implementation of the NEP in one week through the MyGov portal.
Advocating for teaching up to class 5 in the mother tongue, the prime minister said that language is only a form of study and not a study in itself.
