Modi said that by 2022 all students will become NEP. “Now, students will not have to limit themselves to the strict limits of commerce, science and the humanities and will choose the subjects they want to choose. It will return to focus on note-based education and note sheets to learning-based education, ”Modi said.
The NEP supersedes the 34-year policy and brings major changes from school to college level, as well as teacher hiring. Among the main changes proposed in the NEP are the change from the 10 + 2 school system to the 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 format, the dilution of the board exams and the change of the assessment system, teaching in the mother tongue up to at least class 5, the common entrance exam for admission to colleges, multiple exits and entry points in university degrees, constitution of the Academic Credit Bank, replacing UGC, AICTE, NAAC by a single autonomous body among several others.
