NEET, JEE 2020 exams: SC dismisses ministers’ petition for review against taking exams – education


On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition for review filed by ministers from six states, seeking review of the court’s Aug. 17 order to carry out NEET-UG and JEE (Red).

A 3-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan was listening to the petition for review filed by ministers from six opposition-ruled states seeking review of the August 17 order of the supreme court, which had allowed the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the central government to withdraw. Forward with the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and the National Cum Income Eligibility Exam (NEET) despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The court had said in the August 17 order: “Life must go on” despite the outbreak of the viral disease and we cannot endanger the students’ careers by interfering with the NTA’s decision to take the exams in September.

The JEE Main exam began on September 1 and is scheduled to conclude on September 6, while NEET-UG 2020 will take place on September 13. Almost 9.5 lakh of engineering aspirants registered for JEE Main 2020, while more than 15 lakh of MBBS (medical) and BDS (dental) aspirants have registered for NEET UG.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education reported this Thursday that on the first day of JEE Main, 54.67% of the total number of registered candidates took the exam 2- degree exam in architecture and planning. On the second and third day, attendance at the B.Tech and BE exams (test 1) was 81.08% and 82.14%, respectively. According to attendance statistics, 3.43 lakhs of candidates took the exam in three days.
