Delhi LG rejects proposal to postpone NEET and JEE exams
Delhi Deputy Governor Anil Baijal has rejected the Delhi government’s proposal to postpone the NEET, JEE 2020 exam and has given permission to take the entrance exams in the city. His decision to go ahead with the exams came amid objection raised by the Delhi government in light of the safety of students amid the pandemic.
The proposal was rejected on Saturday during the Delhi Disaster Management Act DDMA meeting. While speaking with PTI, the sources said: “The Delhi government in its file sent to LG on Saturday recommended not to take the exams in view of the safety of the students. The Chief Minister of Delhi had also decided not to retain JEE and NEET in light of the pandemic. However, LG returned the file giving its permission to conduct the tests. “
Entrance exams would be held in September across the country for 24 lakh applicants. Many state governments are making arrangements for students that include transportation services, reopening of hotels for applicants who will sit for exams, among others. Meanwhile, the director of IIT Delhi has appealed to his students to come forward and help needy students to reach their examination centers on time.
On the other hand, six ministers from opposition-governed states requested that the Supreme Court review its order allowing the Center to conduct NEET and JEE entrance exams this year amid Friday’s pandemic.
