Srinagar: 18-year-old Basit Bilal Khan, who emerged from the Pulwama district hardest hit by Jammu and Kashmir’s militancy, has shown that Kashmir’s youth are second to none in academic excellence and pursue dreams of a better tomorrow.
Bilal has scored 695 points out of 720 on the NEET exam, the result of which was declared on Friday.
Getting more than 96 percent of the grades while preparing for his exam in his home town of Ratnipora is no small feat for Bilal.
For more than 80 days during Bilal’s year of preparation for the NEETs, the Internet had been suspended in the Pulwama district for security reasons.

And for the remaining period, the internet speed remained restricted to 2G, which has yet to be increased in the home district of Bilal.
Speaking to reporters about his success, Bilal said he has to thank God, his teachers and parents who helped him realize his dream.
“I was hoping to qualify, but I didn’t think I would score that high,” Bilal said.
Bilal wants to serve people in whatever capacity he has to do so. Speaking about the problems of young people in his home district and in other parts of Kashmir, he said: “Children get involved in strange and evil things because their parents do not give them enough time and the remaining gap forces them to take tough measures.” .
Bilal’s success will surely reopen the window of hope for hundreds of local youth who feel deprived of opportunities and avenues due to the difficult times the Valley is going through.
“If Bilal can do it despite the difficulties in accessing the Internet, the uncertain situation of law and order and the problem of reaching academic material and assistance, I have no doubt that dozens of our children will repeat their success in the future, “said Muzaffar Ahmad, a retired university principal.
