Police said the man hit Mr. Gupta with a brick on the head, stabbed him three times in the stomach, and later cut his throat. The woman and her mother helped him dispose of the body, they added.
The three defendants, Faisal (29), her mother Shaheen Naaz (45) and her fiancé Juber (28), have been arrested, said police officer Vijayanta Arya.
The matter came to light after police were informed that Gupta had disappeared from Adarsh Nagar, northwest of Delhi.
Neeraj Gupta’s wife told police that she suspected Faisal was behind her husband’s disappearance. It also revealed that Faisal and Neeraj Gupta had a long-standing relationship, a senior official said.
On the basis of his complaint, a case was registered under section 365 (Kidnapping or kidnapping with intent to confine a person secretly and unlawfully) of the Indian Penal Code and Faisal was questioned, police said.
“During questioning, Faisal revealed that she worked for Gupta and had been in an extramarital affair with him for the past 10 years. Her parents wanted to marry her off to Juber and she got engaged to him. When she told Gupta this, he dissuaded her from marry someone and came to his rented house in the Kewal Park extension in the Adarsh Nagar area, where heated arguments broke out between him and Juber, Faisal and his mother, “the official said.
During the altercation, Gupta pushed Faisal, enraging Juber and attacking and killing him, he said.
After killing Mr. Gupta, they put the body in a suitcase and arrived at the Nizamuddin train station in a taxi. Juber, who works in the Railways pantry, boarded the Rajdhani Express with the suitcase and disposed of the body near Bharuch in Gujarat, the official said.
The knife and brick used in the crime have been recovered, police said, adding that efforts are being made to recover the body and further investigations are underway.
