Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on Friday that the NDA will meet on Sunday to formally elect its leader in Bihar. The meeting will take place at 12:30 pm, said Kumar, who will likely be sworn in for a fourth consecutive term in Bihar. Following the poor performance of JD (U) in the recently concluded 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, where Rashtriya Janata Dal emerged as the largest party and the BJP as the dominant ally in the NDA alliance with more seats than JD (U ), Speculation abounded as to whether Nitish Kumar will remain prime minister. However, several high-level leaders of the BJP have confirmed that it had been agreed before that Nitish Kumar would be in charge and that the BJP would fulfill its pre-election promise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned Nitish Kumar and his contribution to the resounding victory of the NDA in Bihar.

With BJP’s intention to keep Nitish Kumar in command, the swearing-in is likely to take place next week. It could also take place on Monday, on the auspicious occasion of ‘Bhai Dooj’. But speaking to the media on Thursday for the first time after the results were announced, Nitish Kumar dismissed these speculations.
In this case, Sunday’s meeting will be a procedure to re-elect Nitish Kumar. Other than that, other crucial decisions regarding the alliance will be made at Sunday’s meeting.
