The Office of Narcotics Control will challenge Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty’s bail in the Supreme Court, it said after the Bombay High Court delivered its verdict on Wednesday granting the actor bail. Additional Attorney General Anil Singh said: “This matter involves a number of issues of law and therefore we want to test this order before the Supreme Court.”
The NCB arrested Rhea Chakraborty on September 8 in a drug-related case the agency in the poll related to the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajpurt. Rhea’s brother Showik was arrested before her. Rhea moved a bail statement to the Bombay High Court after her bail statement was rejected by a special court on September 11. On Wednesday, the high court granted bail only to the actor. Showik will remain in jail as his bail statement was rejected.

In all previous hearings in the case, NCB had objected that the defendant (Rhea) “has actively aided, abetted and financed another defendant for the drug transaction in compliance with the criminal conspiracy.” On Tuesday, when a special NDPS (Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances) court was hearing the case, NCB said the NDPS Act does not establish that crimes are bailed based on the amount of drugs involved. The NDPS court extended judicial custody of Rhea, Showik and 18 others until October 20. But now, after the high court verdict, Rhea will be released from Byculla prison after a month.
Meanwhile, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family lawyer, Vikas Singh, has written to the CBI seeking the creation of a new forensic team to investigate the actor’s autopsy report.
