Sushant was found dead in his Bandra flat here on June 14. As the scope of the investigation continues to increase every day since the Directorate of Enforcement, CBI and NCB joined the drugs angle, it yielded a number of clues.
NCB Deputy Director KPS Malhotra told the media that the homes of Showik, who is the brother of Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, and Miranda’s were being searched, but declined to give further details.
At around 6.30am, NCB teams began the raids, which came a day after the Mumbai court sent alleged drug dealer Zaid Vilatra into NCB custody for seven days. The raids are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
A large group of police officers were deployed outside the PrimRose Housing Society on Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai, the rented apartment of the Chakrabortys.
Later, Miranda was rushed in for further investigation by the NCB, and Showik is also expected to be summoned for questioning.
The NCB registered a case on August 26 after the Directorate of Enforcement wrote to it. On the intervening night of August 27-28, the narco team conducted searches in Mumbai and two people, namely Abbas Lakhani and Karan Arora, were arrested and their possession recovered ‘bud’ (cured marijuana). There were some mentions of ‘outbreak’ in alleged social media posts among the people involved in the case.
The official had said that detailed analysis of the network and follow-up investigation revealed links between Lakhani and Vilatra, who also revealed that he makes a substantial amount of money from drug trafficking, especially Bud.
“Based on Vilatra’s interrogation, Abdul Basit Parihar was forced to join the investigation. Parihar’s links with previously accused persons were also established based on the details of the preliminary investigation presented by the ED,” the official said.
The NCB source said Parihar had connections to Miranda, who was also a close associate of Rhea. Miranda is accused of acquiring drugs following Showik’s instructions.
The NCB filed a case against Rhea, her brother Showik, Talent Manager Jaya Saha, Sushant’s co-manager Shruti Modi, and Goa-based hotelier Gaurav Arya under Sections 20 (b) 28, 29 of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law.
The NCB case was registered as a result of the WhatsApp messages between Rhea and Shruti Modi, Miranda and Pithani that came to light.
