MUMBAI: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a television and movie actress while accepting 99 grams of marijuana from a drug dealer in Andheri on Sunday.
The actress, with a degree in engineering, has acted in some series and a Hindi film. The NCB’s action stems from its investigation of the drug angle in the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput.
NCB’s zonal director Sameer Wankhede’s team set a trap and caught the actress while accepting marijuana from Faisal Yasin Shaikh (20), said to be a street vendor operating out of Versova.
Reserved under the NDPS Act, the actress and Faisal were filed in vacation court and placed in NCB custody until November 8.
The amount seized belongs to the category of small amounts, attracting one year of IR and a fine of Rs 10,000. Attorney Ayaz Khan, who appeared on behalf of the actress, said he would be moving to court on bail.
The NCB subsequently detained a man, Deepak Rathuar, on suspicion of supplying Faisal with ganja. The NCB said the actress paid Faisal money, but the amount had not yet been determined.
Rathaur was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell earlier for selling on Yari Road, Versova and Andheri.
“There are a few more people who are connected in this case,” an official said. “We have confiscated his cell phone and we are reviewing WhatsApp messages and call data logs for more information.”
