The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested the personal staff of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput Dipesh Sawant on Saturday in a drug-related case in connection with the late actor’s death. The NCB arrested Sawant on Saturday night after revelations made by Showik, the brother of Sushant’s girlfriend, Rhea Chalraborty, and Sushant’s home manager, Samuel Miranda, who were arrested Friday night.
Earlier in the day, the NCB obtained custody of Showik and Miranda for four days until September 9. The duo were arrested after the agency obtained adequate evidence against them regarding their involvement in the drug case. Showik’s arrest came after it was discovered that he used to order drugs from another arrested defendant named Abdel Basit Parihar.
Parihar was arrested Thursday night and has been placed in the custody of the agency until September 9.
An NCB official said the agency will question Showik and Miranda and also confront them with the other arrested defendants. The official said the duo will also be questioned about information obtained by the agency from their laptops and chat logs.
According to the NCB, Showik used to order marijuana from Parihar and pay her with Google Pay. The NCB had registered a case on August 26 under various sections of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act, naming Rhea, her brother, talent manager Jaya Saha, Sushant’s co-manager Shruti Modi, and the hotelier with Goa-based Gaurav Arya after Application. The Directorate wrote to him about the angle of drugs.
This followed the discovery of WhatsApp messages between Rhea and Shruti Modi, Miranda, and Sushant’s roommate, Siddharth Pithani.
The NCB is the third central agency to join the investigation into Sushant’s death after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED.
