Nawaz Sharif Makes a Political Comeback; launches a scathing attack on Imran’s army and government

ISLAMABAD: Deposed Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz sharif on Sunday he made a political comeback by criticizing the mighty army and said the opposition was not against the prime minister Imran khan but against those who brought an “ineffective” man to power.
Addressing the All Parties Conference (APC) hosted by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) through a video link intended to launch a protest movement against the Pakistani government Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Led by Khan, the three-time prime minister launched a scathing attack on the ruling party for its “inability to address the basic problems of the people.”
Sharif, 70, the Muslim League of Pakistan Nawaz (PML-N) supreme, has been living in London since November last year after the Lahore High Court granted him permission to go abroad for four weeks for treatment.
On Friday, president of PPP Zardari He spoke to him on the phone and invited him to attend virtually the opposition-led All Party Conference (APC) scheduled for Sunday.
Addressing the conference, Sharif criticized the country’s powerful establishment for allegedly supporting Khan.
“Our fight is not against Imran Khan. Today, our fight is against those who installed Imran Khan and rigged the elections (of 2018) to bring an inefficient man like him to power and thus destroyed the country,” he said.
Sharif said the top priority should be to eliminate “this selected government and this system,” adding that “if the change is not carried out, it will bring irreversible losses to this country.”
He called on the powerful army to stay away from politics and follow the Constitution and the vision of the country’s father, ‘Quaid-e-Azam’, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
“It is very important that our armed forces stay away from our system of government in accordance with our Constitution and the speech of the Quaid, and not interfere with the election of the people. We have made this country a joke in our own eyes and also to international level, “he said. said.
Sharif noted that former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani once said that there was “a state within a state” in Pakistan.
“It is sad that the situation has escalated to state above state. This parallel government disease is the root cause of our problems,” he said.
He called on the leaders attending the conference to make important decisions to change the country’s system, claiming that the current government has enforced “martial law” in the country.
“This conference must present a concrete plan of action to save democracy, a concrete policy must be elaborated to solve the problem of a parallel state. I again urge this conference of all parties to go beyond their traditional ways and form a plan. of action, “he said.
Sharif reiterated that the vote of the people must be honored, which is the only way to save democracy and the country.
Pakistan has been constantly deprived of a democratic system. When the vote is dishonored, the entire democratic system loses meaning. When it is decided before the electoral process who will win and who will lose, then it will be possible to guess how the public betrays itself and how the mandate of the public is stolen, ”he said.
He said military dictators ruled for several years, but none of the elected prime ministers were allowed to complete the allotted five years.
Without naming the former military dictator Pervez musharrafsaid the court did not act against him for suspending the Constitution.
“The courts gave dictators the right to play with the Constitution and acquitted someone (Musharraf) who suspended the Constitution twice. While those who follow the Constitution are still in jail,” he said.
The powerful military, which has ruled Pakistan for more than half of its more than 70 years of existence, has thus far wielded considerable power over security and foreign policy.
Before Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari he also addressed the conference via video link and criticized the government, which he said was using tactics to suppress the opposition.
“It is important that all parties come together to get rid of this government,” he said.
PPP President Bilawal is organizing and chairing the conference attended by various opposition parties to chart a course of action to launch protests against the government.
Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Muhammad Safdar were convicted in the Avenfield property case on July 6, 2018.
Sharif, who was deposed in 2017, was also sentenced to seven years in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case in December 2018. But he was rescued in both cases and was also allowed to go to London for medical treatment.
He was given eight weeks to return, but did not return due to health complications, according to his attorney.
