Shailputri Puja
Devotees begin the Navratri celebrations by offering their prayers to Maa Shailputri, the daughter of the Himalayas. The pictorial representation of Maa Shailputri shows her with two hands. She holds the Trishul (Trident) in the right hand, a pink lotus in the left. A crescent adorns his forehead.
As she is riding on a bull, her vahana, she is also known as Vrisha Roodha. In her previous birth, she was Sati, the daughter of King Daksha. She immolated herself after her father humiliated her husband, Lord Shiva, by not inviting him to a Yagnya who had all the Gods, Goddesses, Devas, and Devis as guests.
Shailputri Puja Vidhi
Begin the puja by invoking Lord Ganesha (Vighnaharta) and seek his blessings for an unhindered Navratri vrat.
Invoke Maa Shailputri by chanting the following Mantras.
