Punjab’s Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh invited former Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for lunch on Wednesday.
“He and @sherryontopp are expected to discuss state and national politics during lunch meeting,” Amarinder media adviser Raveen Thukral tweeted.
Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu are not on the best of terms since the latter stepped down from the state council of ministers after being stripped of the local government department last year, but lately both leaders have made efforts to break the ice.
Earlier, Amarinder asked Sidhu to support the resolution in the state assembly against the Center’s agricultural laws and then the latter also participated in a protest led by the prime minister in Delhi.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and head of state Harish Rawat has openly attempted a rapprochement between Amarinder and Sidhu and has also been pushing for a major role for the cricketer-turned-politician. Although there is discontent in a section of the party for the importance it is giving to Sidhu, Rawat recently recommended to state leaders that they be more “flexible and accommodating” with the former minister.
