Navdeep Singh hailed as’ hero ‘for turning off water cannon during farmers’ protest, charged with’ attempted murder ‘: The Tribune India

Chandigarh, November 28

26-year-old farmer Navdeep Singh, an ‘icon of farmers’ agitation who managed to climb a police canyon and cut off the direction of the high-speed stream of the protesting farmer, has been charged with attempted murder by Haryana Police.

A video showing his ‘daring’ act has gone viral on social media.

The incident took place on November 25 when hundreds of thousands of farmers, braving tear gas and water cannons after breaking through massive blockages comprising huge rocks, barbed fences and mounds, were on their march to Delhi for a planned protest against the new agricultural laws.

The farmer, Navdeep Singh, has been booked for an assassination attempt together with the Bharatiya Kisan Union State President Gurnam Singh Chaduni.

The police have accused them of breaking through a police barricade and trying to run over the policemen with a tractor-trailer at the Parao police station in the Ambala district.

After graduating from Kurukshetra University in 2015, Navdeep joined agriculture with his father, Jai Singh Jalbera, a local farmer activist. IANS
