A 49-year-old man was arrested in Nagpur on Tuesday for allegedly misleading Mukta Bobde, mother of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Bobde, for almost Rs 2.5 crore.
The defendant, Tapas Ghosh, is the manager of Seasons Lawn, a commercial program venue owned by Mukta Bobde.
“Working as a manager for the last 13 years, Ghosh used to take care of the reserves and financial and maintenance matters of the gardens in the Civil Lines area of the city, near Bobde’s residence. On Mukta Bobde’s complaint, we investigated the matter and found that Ghosh had committed Rs 2.5 million fraud since 2016. This was by suppressing the reserve count and generating false financial documents, ”said the Deputy Commissioner police officer Vinita Shahu. He added: “Ghosh had conspired with his wife and some others to commit the fraud.”
Mukta Bobde, 94, is cared for by caregivers. When asked if there was anyone in the family who noticed the fraud, Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said: “There is a Deopujari, an acquaintance of Bobdes’s family, who filed a complaint with us.
The offenses against Ghosh have been recorded in sections 409, 420, 467, 468,470,471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, relating to cheating and other charges.
