New Delhi: Azim Premji, the founder and president of Wipro, is the most generous person in the country as he donated Rs 22 crore per day, bringing his total contribution to charity in the previous year to Rs 7,904 crore, according to Eledgive Hurun Philanthropy list 2020 .

Azim Premji, who transformed Wipro from a vegetable oil company to a diversified conglomerate, is one of the richest men in India, but when it comes to charity, he has been at the top of the philanthropic list. So far he has donated almost half of his wealth to charity. His main solidarity work has been in the field of education.

Azim Premji was the first Indian to sign up for The Giving Pledge, a campaign led by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, to encourage wealthier people to commit to giving most of their wealth to philanthropic causes. He is the third non-American after Richard Branson and David Sainsbury to join this philanthropy club.

In May 2020, the Azim Premji Foundation collaborated with the National Center for Biological Sciences and the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine to increase the testing infrastructure to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the 2020 EdelGive Hurun Philanthropy List, which shows 112 people who have donated Rs 5 crore or more during April 2019 to March 31, 2020, Shiv Nadar, Founder and President of HCL Technologies, ranked second in a row by Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India.
