The couple had approached the high court stating that they feared a threat to their lives and personal freedom from the girl’s family, while the opposition to their marriage was a serious abuse of their rights under article 21 of the Constitution. .
The police subsequently housed them in a foster home for several days, while following the higher court’s directive to assess the perceived threat and provide them with security.
Police also met with the girl’s family and tried to convince them that the two were legally married and that they should be allowed to live together, Goyal said.
The girl had previously refused to meet with her family, who during a hearing in the case on November 11 wanted to meet her once, he added.
