Delhi Capitals fast pitcher Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the current Indian Premier League season, the franchise confirmed on Monday (October 12). Ishant initially experienced rib cage pain and has been revealed to have suffered a muscle tear.
“Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of pain in his left rib cage while bowling at a team training session on October 7, 2020 in Dubai,” the franchise said in a statement. “Further investigation revealed that he suffered a tear of the left internal oblique muscle.”
Despite being a vital cog in that bowling lineup, with 13 times last season, injury forced Ishant to play just one solo game this season, in which he was left without ground against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
DC has used players like Avesh Khan, Mohit Sharma, and most recently Harshal Patel to fill the Ishant void at the XI with neither of them having managed to nail their place. However, DC is still off to a brilliant start to their campaign, winning five of their seven games so far, sharing first place with the Mumbai Indians.
