Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday criticized actor Kangana Ranaut over the controversy following the death of Sushant Singh Rajput without naming her, saying that Maharashtra haters have left no stone unturned to defame the state.
This is the first time that Uddhav Thackeray has spoken about the controversies surrounding the death of the Rajput that targeted his son Aaditya Thackeray and actor Rhea Chakraborty, among others. “Those who cry out for justice for the son of Bihar are allowing themselves the murder of the character of the children of Maharashtra,” Thackeray said as he broke his silence on the accusations against Aaditya Thackeray.
Shiv Sena’s boss was speaking at his party’s annual Dussehra rally at the Savarkar hall in the Dadar area of Mumbai due to coronavirus regulations rather than the usual Shivaji Park venue.
Thackeray said some people come to Mumbai for bread and butter and abuse the city by calling it Pakistani-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), but they did not name Kangana Ranaut. “People who have no livelihood at home come to Mumbai and betray it. Calling Mumbai PoK is in fact the failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said he would return the PoK to India, ”Thackeray said.
Ranaut had sparked a controversy after he compared Mumbai to PoK in September. Ranaut’s comment was in response to a comment from Shiv Sena’s leader, Sanjay Raut, asking her not to return to the city after she claimed that she felt unsafe here. He had also made objectionable comments against the Mumbai police.

After the Rajput’s death on June 14, Thackeray’s Shiv Sena-led coalition government was also criticized by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Ranaut for handling the case by the Mumbai police. Mumbai police, which initially investigated the Rajput’s death, said it was a suicide case. However, the actor’s family filed a complaint against Rhea Chakraborty and her relatives, accusing her of stealing his money and leading him to end his life among other things.
The case is now being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) and the Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB). Several people, including Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, were arrested by NCB, which is investigating the drugs angle in relation to the Rajput’s death.
