Muradnagar News: 15 Killed in Ceiling Collapse at Ghaziabad Cremation Camp | Ghaziabad News


GHAZIABAD: Twenty-one people died and at least 20 were injured when the roof of a shelter in a cremation ground in Uttar Pradeshis Muradnagar it collapsed Sunday, police said.
The roof collapsed when several people had taken refuge in the structure while it was raining. Most of them were relatives of Jai Ram, who was being cremated at the time.
Rescuers searched the rubble for hours to make sure no more victims were trapped there.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also dispatched to the site of the Ukhlarsi village of Muradnagar.
In addition to the 21 dead, another 20 are admitted to different hospitals, authorities said Sunday night.
They added that the number of injured could be higher since some others were removed from the place by their relatives.
Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed regret at the loss of life. It also announced Rs 2 lakh as financial aid for the families of each murdered person.
