ADG (headquarters) Jitendra Kumar, ADG (law and order) Amit Kumar and additional electoral director Sanjay Kumar Singh rushed to Munger on Tuesday morning to take stock of the situation and observe the polls for their three Munger seats alongside with others in Bihar on Thursday.
ADG (headquarters), while speaking to TOI by phone, said that additional forces and official officers were deployed to the Munger city area as a precaution to ensure a peaceful vote in the context of the incident.
“So far, nothing has emerged to indicate that the police opened fire during the incident that resulted in the victim. There would be a detailed investigation and investigation into the overall incident, ”Kumar said, adding that the situation is completely normal now. ADG said the Munger idol city area dive was completed on Tuesday morning.
Munger SP Lipi Singh told this newspaper that the murdered person was identified as Aniruddh Poddar (22) who was a bystander.
“The autopsy was done by a board of doctors,” he said. Singh also denied that Poddar’s death was the result of a shot by security personnel.
“There were no shots fired by security personnel during the incident. Lathi’s charge took place to disperse the violent crowd. The police kept the maximum restriction on their side, ”he said.
He said the shot was fired through the crowd during the immersion processions that went through the chowk one after another.
Singh said the type of splinter injuries suffered by civilians prima facie did not indicate that they were due to police shooting.
“Things would be completely clear after the investigation,” he said.
The SP said that the three countries manufactured pistols and several live and empty cartridges were recovered from the scene of the violence.
“30 people have been arrested. The process to present several FIRs began, ”he said.
She said that Munger’s famous ‘Badi Durga’ idol procession was going on when the incident occurred.
“It usually takes place four days after Dusshehra, but this time the administration had asked them to complete the entire ritual earlier. There was a clash between civilians involved in the procession behind the Badi Durga which then turned violent and resulted in the police being stoned, ”Singh said.
SP said that Covid-19 norms and the management direction were openly violated by some of the committees, including Badi Durga’s, which had gathered a large crowd for the dive.
Singh police suspect that the immersion procession was being deliberately delayed. He said the situation is currently under control and that the elections will be held as scheduled.
SP said there were 175 idols in Munger whose immersion was completed as of early Tuesday morning.
