MUMBAI: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided that all schools in Mumbai will remain closed until December 31 of this year. Previously, they had allowed schools to resume physical sessions for classes IX through XII starting November 23 (Monday), but they revised the decision on Friday.
A BMC official stated that after studying the example of Delhi, where cases have suddenly risen again, BMC has decided to keep schools closed until the end of the year for the safety of students, their families and others.
When the school education department allowed schools to resume physical sessions for classes IX through XII beginning on November 23, they authorized local agencies to make the final decision.
All teachers had to undergo an RT-PCR test, be Covid-19 negative before coming to school, and parental consent was required for students to be sent to school.
School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said: “We have allowed schools to reopen from 23 November, but it would be up to local authorities to make a decision on reopening based on the situation on the ground. Physical classes will not resume, online learning will continue. Health and safety of students and teachers are top priority. ”
