Bombay: Maharashtra recorded 49,447 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, its highest peak in a single day since the start of the pandemic that brought the count to 29,53,523.
According to the state health department, 277 people have died from the disease within 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 55,656. A total of 37,821 people recovered from the disease today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 24,95,315. The number of active cases in the state is 4,01,172.
The state’s capital city, Mumbai, recorded 9,090 new COVID cases on Saturday, the highest increase in a day since the pandemic began. The city had reported 8,832 new cases the day before, a record that surpassed Saturday’s count.
A total of 27 succumbed to the disease on Saturday, the highest death count since early December 2020, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). New cases of COVID-19 brought the total number of infections in the country’s financial capital to 4,41,282, while the death toll rose to 11,751.
A total of 5,322 people have recovered in the last 24 hours in the city, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3.66,365. Active cases in the city are 62,187.
The surge in COVID-19 cases comes amid repeated warnings from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray that the state will impose the lockdown if cases continue to rise.

Delhi
Delhi reported more than 3,500 coronavirus cases for the second day in a row on Saturday, while the positivity rate rose to 4.48 percent, according to the health department. The new infections brought the number of cumulative cases to 6,72,381, while 10 more deaths brought the number to 11,060.
The city had reported 3,594 cases on Friday, the highest daily count this year.
Karnataka
Karnataka recorded 4,373 new COVID-19 cases and deaths on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 10.10 lakh and the number of victims to 12,610, the Health department said on Saturday. Of the 4,373 new cases reported on Saturday, 3,002 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.
According to a health department bulletin, a total of 10,10,602 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the state, including 12,610 deaths and 9,61,359 discharges.
Andhra Pradesh
A total of 1,398 people tested positive for COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 9,05,946.
With the death of nine people from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the total number of deaths in the state rose to 7,234. A total of 787 recoveries in the last 24 hours brought the total number of people recovered to 8,89,295. The total number of active cases is 9,417.
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand reported 439 new COVID cases and four deaths in a 24-hour span, bringing the infection count to 1.01,714 and the death toll to 1,725.
A total of 176 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 95,825.

Goa recorded 219 new positive coronavirus cases and two deaths on Saturday, bringing the tally to 58,803 and the number to 834.
With 151 patients discharged for the day, the state’s recovery count rose to 55,989, he said.
Goa is now left with 1,980 active cases, an official said, PTI reported.
Kerala
A total of 2,541 new COVID-19 cases and 12 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Kerala on Saturday, bringing the infection count to 11,32,431 and the death toll to 4,658.
According to the state health department, 1,660 people recovered from the disease today, bringing the total number of people recovered to 11,00,186. Currently, there are 27,274 people under treatment and 1,42,761 under observation, of which 4,306 are in isolation rooms at various hospitals, according to a statement.
