Maharashtra on Monday imposed an overnight curfew at 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. to January 5 in Mumbai and other cities, and announced new quarantine rules for arrivals from Europe and the Middle East, in light of a strain of fast-spreading coronavirus that has emerged in the United Kingdom and caused several nations, including India, to temporarily ban flights from that country. Essential services, such as the supply of vegetables and milk, will not be affected. However, no more than five people can gather at a given location during this time.

It was on October 4 that more than four lakhs of restaurants, bars and hotels in the state reopened after a lapse of six months, as part of the fifth phase of easing the COVID-19 restrictions, called “Unlocking 5”.
