Mumbai:
A large number of fake social media profiles that have allegedly been monitoring the Mumbai police and their boss in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput case are being investigated, an official said today.
A case has also been brought against some of these profiles for reportedly using transformed images of Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh’s official Twitter username, according to Rashmi Karandikar, Deputy Police Commissioner (Cyber Cell ).
Mumbai police have come under severe scrutiny in recent months following the death of 34-year-old Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14 in the city. While the police called it a suicide case, members of the actor’s family, fans and others have raised questions and theories on social media.
In August, the Supreme Court endorsed an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the actor’s death. Last week, an AIIMS medical board that reviewed Sushant Singh Rajput’s viscera samples and other forensic evidence, said in its findings to the CBI that it was death by suicide, not murder.
“We faced criticism and abuse on social media … The full report was sent to the Supreme Court … Challenge … Does anyone know the content of the report? The criticism was as part of a campaign,” Mumbai said. the police chief told NDTV in an exclusive interview today. “Fake news was being distributed … What was the design behind this? We will get to the bottom of this,” Singh said.
