Mumbai: In a great relief to women in Mumbai, the state government allowed women to travel on local trains on Friday starting tomorrow, that is, October 17. An order issued by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation stated that women will be able to board local trains during two time slots during the day.
An order issued by Secretary Kishor Raje Nimbalkar stated that women will be allowed to board Mumbai suburban trains between 11 am and 3 pm and after 7 pm until the end of service.
The order is valid for both Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Women with valid tickets will be able to use local train services.
“Local train services are requested to be available to all women from 11am to 4pm. M. At 3 p. M. And again from 7 p.m. M. Until the end of the day’s local services, starting October 17, 2020 in Mumbai and the MMR region. During this period, all women with valid tickets and also all emergency personnel may be allowed entry. QR codes will not be required for women traveling during that period of time, ”the order said.
The order reiterated that permission previously granted to emergency services personnel to travel on local trains will remain valid throughout the day.
“Local train services to all personnel in all sectors that have been notified as emergency services to date will continue as they are currently being provided, that is, throughout the day,” the order adds.
The Secretary also instructed the concerned authorities to increase the frequency of local trains to meet the growing demand.
The development came just two days after the Maharashtra government allowed the Mumbai metro to resume operations in the financial capital. Metro services will restart at 8.30 am on October 19, that is, Monday.
