At least two people died after a fire broke out last night at a hospital in a shopping mall in Mumbai. More than 70 coronavirus patients were admitted to the hospital at the time of the incident.
The incident comes at a time when India’s financial capital is once again experiencing a surge in Covid cases. On Thursday, the city recorded 5,504 new infections to record a new record.
Last night, more than 70 Covid patients were rushed out of Dreams Mall Sunrise Hospital when the fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. However, two of them died, authorities said.
About 22 fire trucks were rushed to the hospital to put out the flames. The cause of the incident is still unknown; a probe has been launched.
“Two victims have been reported in the incident. A level 3 or level 4 fire broke out on the first floor of a shopping center at 12:30 am. There are 22 to 23 firefighters at the scene,” the police officer said. Prashant Kadam was quoted by the ANI news agency.

“Of 73 covid patients, 30 patients were transferred to the Mulund Jumbo center and three patients were transferred to the Fortis Hospital,” confirmed a senior doctor.
The ANI news agency quoted Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar as saying: “This is the first time I have seen a hospital in a shopping mall. It is a very serious situation. Seven patients were connected to ventilators. 70 patients have been transferred. to another hospital. There will be an investigation to confirm the cause of the fire. “
