'No New Restrictions': Mumbai Extends Curbs on COVID-19 Until Sept. 30

Mumbai COVID-19 count increased to 1.78 lakh on Thursday with the addition of 2,389 new cases.

Mumbai:

There will be no new restrictions in Mumbai for now, Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray said on Thursday, as the city extended the ban on large gatherings and restrictions until Sept. 30 over the coronavirus crisis.

“There is NO need to panic. The order issued under section 144 CrPC is just an extension of the previous order issued on August 31st. No new restrictions have been imposed by @MumbaiPolice. Please share and don’t panic. # Section144 #Mumbai, “Thackeray tweeted.

The restrictions in Mumbai under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code or CrPC have been in place in the city since the shutdown began in March. They were extended under the Aug. 31 guidelines on easing the blockade issued by the Maharashtra government, and no new restrictions have been imposed, an official told the PTI news agency.

“The order issued under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code is a mere extension of our previous order (issued on August 31) and no new restrictions have been imposed,” said city police commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Social distancing (minimum two meters between two people) must be followed in public places, the orders said.

“Any movement of one or more people in the area designated as a Containment Zone by municipal authorities is prohibited, except for essential activities, supply of essential goods and medical emergencies,” the orders indicated.

All movements of one or more people in the city are prohibited, except for medical emergencies and emergency duties, government-semi-government agencies and their service officials, the orders said, before listing further exemptions.

Establishments that provide essential services such as food, vegetables, groceries, hospitals, medical stores, pathology laboratories and medical nursing schools, telephone and Internet services, electricity, oil, oil, and entities related to energy are exempt.

Banks, the stock exchange, clearing houses, depositories, stockbrokers, and SEBI registered participants who operate through these institutions are also exempt.

Information technology, information technology-enabled services, media, ports, food, grocery and essential commodity home delivery services, e-commerce activities are also exempt.

Exempt activities will be allowed under the orders issued on August 31 by the Maharashtra government regarding the easing of restrictions and the phased opening of the shutdown under “Mission Start Over”.

Deputy police commissioners in each zone can grant further waivers when necessary, the orders said.

Mumbai COVID-19 count increased to 1.78 lakh on Thursday with the addition of 2,389 new cases and 43 deaths bringing the death count to 8,320.
