MUMBAI: The Bureau of Narcotics Control (NCB) detained a Tollywood actress from a hotel in Bhayander for alleged drug possession and arrested an executive employed by a multinational company in the Bandra Talao area and confiscated 400 g of mephedrone worth Rs 10 lakh.
During questioning, the arrested defendant, Chand Mohammed Shaikh (27), told officials that he had purchased the drugs from a man identified only as Saeed de Bhayander. Police are looking for Saeed, a storyteller believed to be a major drug supplier in the western suburbs.
Based on information provided by Shaikh, who was arrested by the NCB Mumbai unit led by Area Director Sameer Wankhede, officials conducted a search at the hotel where Saeed was staying, but managed to slip them.
Later, officials detained the actress, who was in Saeed’s room, and recovered a substance suspected of being drugs. “We took the woman to NCB’s Ballard Pier office and we are questioning Saeed and her association with him and the drugs,” an official said, requesting anonymity.
Shaikh, who has been booked under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), will appear in court on Monday.
The NCB has stepped up its investigation into the alleged Bollywood drug case after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The agency took action after receiving an official communication from the Directorate of Enforcement about the chats related to drug use and consumption. Later, the OCN arrested Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik for allegedly acquiring and financing drugs for the Rajput; they both got bail later.
The agency had questioned several Bollywood actresses, questioned Arjun Rampal and his girlfriend and arrested his brother. The NCB had also arrested comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa; then they got bail.
