The city of Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed heavy rains between Friday and Saturday, with light to moderate rains continuing into Saturday morning.
Between 8.30 am on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday, the Colaba meteorological observatory, representative of southern Mumbai, recorded 108 mm of rain while the Santacruz observatory, representative of the suburbs, registered 85.4 mm of rain.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) classifies rain from 15.6 to 64.4 mm as moderate and rain from 64.5 to 115.5 mm as heavy.
The meteorological office has issued a yellow alert (heavy rain in isolated areas) for Saturday.
“Due to the well-marked low pressure system over Madhya Pradesh and the convergence of the wind at lower levels in the northwest region, it is very likely that the north of Konkan, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, will receive heavy or very heavy rains. in isolated places until Sunday morning. Thereafter, the intensity is likely to decrease, ”said KS Hosalikar, IMD’s deputy general manager for western region.

Location-based rainfall figures for the past 24 hours (8.30am Friday to 8.30am Saturday) showed 156mm of rain in Chembur, 129mm of rain in Bandra, 142mm of rain in Navi Mumbai, 122.4 mm of rain in Panvel and 84 mm of rain in Thane.
Mumbai passed the 3,000mm mark of rain on Friday. The city has currently registered 3,038.5 mm of rain throughout the season. Both the suburbs and southern Mumbai have seen excess rainfall of 61%.

The city and suburbs can expect cloudy conditions with moderate to heavy rain on Saturday and light to moderate rain on Sunday.
