A special court in Mumbai is expected to pronounce its order on Friday on the bail statements filed by actress Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and three others. Rhea and the others have been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with their investigation into a drugs angle in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
Special Judge GB Gurao heard presentations made by the Chakraborty’s attorney and the special counsel on Thursday. The requests for bail of the other four defendants were also known, after which the matter was postponed.
Rhea was arrested Tuesday by NCB for allegedly arranging drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in her Mumbai apartment on June 14. The agency said in its affidavit filed in response to its bail statements that Rhea and her brother financed and arranged drugs. for Rajput according to his instructions.
What we know so far:
• After being questioned for three consecutive days, Rhea was arrested by NCB on Tuesday in connection with the agency’s investigation into a drug angle in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. A magistrate court sent Chakraborty into judicial custody for 14 days. After spending Tuesday night at the NCB office, Rhea was transferred to the Byculla jail on Wednesday.
• Rhea moved the special court after a trial court rejected her release on bail Tuesday night. It has been registered under Section 27 A of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
• Although it rejected Rhea’s release on bail, the court sent her into custody until September 22. Her brother Showik and other defendants have been taken into custody until September 23.
• In her release on bail in special court, Rhea has declared that she is innocent and accused the NCB of “falsely implicating her” in the case. The 28-year-old actress said NCB forced her to make “self-incriminating” confessions and was withdrawing them.
• The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are also investigating various angles surrounding the 34-year-old Rajput’s death.
