Mumbai Central Mall fire: Mumbai Mall fire, content, but firefighting operation continues | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Firefighters have succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to the City Center Mall podium parking lot in central Mumbai. However, the firefighting operation is still underway at the mall, fire brigade officials said Saturday morning.
The 55-story Orchid Tower’s power supply has been turned off and residents have left their homes due to excessive smoke.

Up to 18 fire trucks and 10 giant tanker trucks are involved in the operation to put out the fire, an official said.
The fire had broken out on the second floor of the basement plus three floors of the mall at 8:50 p.m. Thursday.
“There were no reports of anyone being injured,” the fire brigade official said.
Five members of the fire department, including a deputy fire officer, were injured during the firefighting operation, but all are stable and released from hospitals.
The fire was initially classified as level 1 (minor), but it was upgraded to level 3 at 10.45 pm and level 4 at 2.30 am, after the flames spread to other parts of the building.
More than 3,500 people from the adjacent residential skyscraper had been evacuated as a precaution.
The Mumbai fire brigade had made a “brigade call”, in which fire trucks from all agencies in the city are called.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray visited the site and assessed the firefighting operation on Friday night.
