Mumbai:
As large parts of the “Maximum City” face widespread and unprecedented power outages due to the “failure of TATA’s incoming power supply,” Mumbai residents took to social media to share witty memes with a side of political sarcasm.
“Electricity Gayaab (missing) through Mumbai. Unprecedented. Mumbai plunges into darkness. Could it be those tunnels?” asked the writer Shobhaa De as others checked if “had the electricity gone to everyone?”

Within minutes of the outage, people turned to social media. Hashtags like #powercut, #Mumbai and #poweroutage, among others, started to be a trend on Twitter.
Some Twitter users used the power outage in the city of Mumbai and its suburban areas to point out how constant the city’s electricity supply has been over the years. Others scoffed at the political memes and comments.

Power supply, interrupted at 10:05 am, was expected to be restored in 45 minutes to an hour for the metropolis, authorities said.
“Due to a technical failure in Circuit 2 of the Kalva-Padghe Power Station, the regions between Thane and Mumbai are facing a power outage. Our staff are working on it and power will be restored in an hour or 45 minutes. “said the Maharashtra Minister of Energy. Nitin Raut said.
Delighted by the unprecedented, large-scale power outage that even brought Mumbai train service to a halt, which first stopped during the nationwide coronavirus shutdown, people were glad that those who worked and studied since home in the middle of the pandemic could take a break.

Adani Electricity, a major energy provider in the city, said it “is currently providing critical services in Mumbai.” Several operators, including state-owned BEST, Adani Electricity and Tata Power supply power to the city.
The power outage also left the posh South Mumbai areas without amenities for residents of the city’s suburban areas, where power outages are routine, sharing their joy at the situation.
