Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has introduced its rapid COVID-19 RT-PCR testing facility for all passengers leaving the airport.
This facility is also available to non-passengers who visit the airport to drop off or pick up their loved ones.
“This initiative addresses passenger concerns regarding different COVID-19 regulations at domestic and international destinations,” the airport operator, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) said in a statement.
Now, departing passengers can be tested at CSMIA before traveling to their destination and produce their negative test report to bypass institutional quarantine at their destination.
Initially launched under the directive of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) for international transit passengers arriving at the airport, CSMIA has now further expanded the availability of the facility for passengers departing the airport.
The facility is located on the sidewalk of Level 4 in Terminal 2 for departing passengers; Non-passengers can also choose to be tested at this location.
Departing passengers can either make a reservation online through the test function available at www.csmia.aero or register at the help desk set up at the departures to sign up for the RT-PCR test before entering the terminal and receive a digital copy sent directly by mail or also Pick up the physical copy of the test report within 8 hours.
“Passengers departing from the airport are encouraged to arrive at the terminal between 8 and 12 hours before scheduled departure,” the statement said.
Since the commemoration of the test facility at the airport, CSMIA has witnessed a total of more than 3,340 passengers who opted for the test.
The airport test facility records an average of 100 tests per day.
Of the tests conducted at the airport to date, 38 passengers have tested positive for Covid-19 and were transferred by state authorities to designated institutions for COVID-19.
Also, the RT-PCR test at the airport is the fastest test facility in the city of Mumbai.
“With test facilities now available at both airport departures and arrivals, passengers can easily transit to and from CSMIA in comfort,” MIAL said.
