MUMBAI: The city’s airport said on Saturday that it has expanded the availability of its express coronavirus infection testing facility to departing and non-passenger passengers as well. The RT-PCR test facility has been operational since October 15, the airport said in a statement.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), initially launched for international transit passengers arriving in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has now further expanded the availability of the test facility for passengers departing the airport. the airport operator said in a statement. launching.
The testing facility, located on the curb of Level 4 in Terminal 2 for departing passengers, is also available to non-passengers visiting the airport to drop off or greet loved ones, it added.
The initiative addresses passenger concerns regarding different Covid-19 regulations in domestic and international destinations, he said, adding that departing passengers can undergo testing at CSMIA before traveling to their destination and produce their report of negative test to bypass institutional quarantine at your destination.
Mumbai Airport had first launched the RT-PCR test facility last month for international passengers arriving in transit to a domestic destination from Mumbai as a measure to avoid institutional quarantine upon arrival.
This was later extended to all passengers arriving at the airport as directed by the MoCA.
Since the commemoration of the test facility on September 6, the airport has witnessed a total of more than 3,340 passengers who opted for the test, with an average of 100 tests per day, according to the statement.
To date, 38 passengers have tested positive, out of the total tests conducted at the airport facility so far, and have been transferred by state authorities to designated Covid-19 institutions, according to the airport operator.
Departing passengers can make a reservation online through the test function available on the CSMI airport website or register with the assistance service established at departures to register for the RT-PCR test before entering the terminal and receive a digital copy mailed directly or you can also charge for the physical copy of the test report within eight hours, he said.
Passengers leaving the airport are encouraged to arrive at the terminal between 8 and 12 hours before the scheduled departure, it added.
