We attended immediately, together with colleagues from the ambulance service. Several other stabbings were reported in the area shortly after, ”West Midlands Police tweeted.

A police statement said a “major incident” has been declared, implying that there has been serious damage or a safety risk to the public. There are special arrangements for all emergency services to work together.

“We are aware of a number of injuries, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious. However, all emergency services are working together at the scene and ensuring that the injured receive medical attention, ”police said in another tweet.

“Work is still being done to establish what happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything. At this initial stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident, ”the statement added.
