Several people have been stabbed in what police described as a “serious incident” in Birmingham city center on Sunday, shortly after midnight. West Midlands Police said they were called in to report a stabbing around 00:30 BST (British Summer Time) on Sunday.
“We can confirm that at approximately 12:30 am today we were called to receive reports of a stabbing in #Birmingham city center. We attended immediately, together with colleagues from the ambulance service. Several other stabbings were reported in the area shortly after, ”West Midlands Police tweeted.

A police statement said a “major incident” has been declared, implying that there has been serious damage or a safety risk to the public. There are special arrangements for all emergency services to work together.
“We are aware of a number of injuries, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious. However, all emergency services are working together at the scene and ensuring that the injured receive medical attention, ”police said in another tweet.
“Work is still being done to establish what happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything. At this initial stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident, ”the statement added.
People have been urged to stay away from the area and remain calm and alert.
